There's a book called Letting Go that I've read about 5 times now... (they say it takes about 8 times of exposure for things to actually stick so here we are). It's had a profound impact on my view of the world and has influenced the protocols here at Detox House.
Dr. David R. Hawkins describes "letting go" as the surrendering of resistance. I see this when I cold plunge and coach people in their cold plunge: there's so much resistance to the cold to the discomfort, none of us want to feel it. Then there's this "powering through it" -- I just have to get through these two minutes and I'm good... vs. just leaning and softening into it. A cold plunge is the perfect place to practice letting go of resistance. Feeling the discomfort (some people even cry) and just letting it all go and leaning in.
By fully feeling the sensation in your body—with non-judgmental presence—you allow the emotional energy to transmute and dissolve naturally rather than suppress, express, or avoid it. This practice is referred to as an energetic release, not repression. It leads to a sense of relief, clarity, and inner peace.
Observe your resistance this week. Where can you just accept what is and then let it go?
Cold therapy is a great way to practice. If you don't have access to a cold plunge, try a cold shower. Remember to use our guides in the app to help you navigate the experience.
