Our nervous systems are wired for protection and detecting threats. We subsconsciously scan for threats every second of the day. The problem is, most of the time the things that set off the alarms are not threatening our survival at all. They're just triggering stories that are deeply ingrained in us. How do we dim these signals so we can rest, digest, and connect more? By training our nervous systems and rewiring the stories.
It's a whole process I've created here at Detox House called The Embodied Freedom Method. You can start today by nurturing your nervous system response and playing around with it through cold exposure. Try a cold shower or a cold plunge and see how fast you can get into safety, acceptance, and surrender. How fast you can slow your heart rate down? How can you get to a state of controlled breathing? And can you get to a place where you've accepted and surrendered to the cold vs. resisting it?
This process tones your vagas nerve and builds so much resilience and adaptability in your nervous system that ripple effects into your life: in relationships, in career, and health.
Try it today with one of our guided cold plunges.
If you want more on this topic, I'm hosting a free live event on August 19th -- a nervous system expansion workshop. Sign up in the events section of the app.
